On Stats, Shots, and Staying Sane

Today was a big day.  Not only was it the Bee's birthday--it was Shot Day.

Hallie somehow missed the big round of shots that kids used to get when they turned 5, which they now get when they turn 4.  So that meant we were behind on hers AND Sara was due for her big round.  And an approaching registration deadline for Big School meant we couldn't put it off any longer.

Cue the fun!

So, after our birthday celebration and a little time at their summer day school (which ends tomorrow--boooo!), I picked up the girls and headed to the pediatrician.  They were promised ice cream and stickers if they were brave during the onslaught.  Hallie seemed to think she was getting the good end of this deal.  That girl loves sugar as much as her momma, and she figured she could take a shot or two for the team if it meant ice cream afterward.  She's been planning what flavor she would have for the past 48 hours.

The doctor and nurse checked out both girls, pronounced them good to go, and sent in the shots.  And we fell apart.  The good news is that the fall-apart did not last all that long, and the nurse and I together were able to hold Sara down fairly easily--a feat, since she's pretty strong and feisty for a little thing.  They got four shots each (I was pleasantly surprised because I expected 5 each).  Both girls survived their shots with enough dignity that ice cream was in order, so we picked up Little Man and went to Bruster's.

I was hoping to capture just how much of a disaster Brooks quickly became, but it was just a little too bright and squinty, and the chocolate rimming his entire face doesn't quite show up.

Anyway, for the curious relatives, both girls are around the 75th percentile for their height and 60th for their weight.  This didn't surprise me at all.  Although they both started out pretty tall (Hallie more than Sara), they seem to have leveled off.  Not sure their brother will follow this pattern with his ol' giant self, but time will tell.  Hallie is 43 3/4 inches tall and weighs 43 pounds.  Sara is 40 inches tall and 37 pounds.  (Pretty sure B is gaining on her in both categories.)  Both girls passed the vision and hearing screenings, and we are officially current on our shots.  Thank goodness.  Once every few years is about all I can take of this kind of fun.
