Zoo Party!

Hallie had her zoo birthday party yesterday, and it was great!  Despite the dire warnings of showers during the party, which greatly alerted her parents, the birthday girl pulled off her party with nary a drop of rain and some nice overcast skies that kept the temperature just right.  My three musketeers played around with the balloons and party decorations while the grown-ups set up the party.

Pierce was our first party guest, and she and Hallie discussed which masks they should try.

The birthday girl doted on our littlest party guest.  This was A.J.'s first zoo trip--I have a feeling it won't be his last.

Daddy put his hot air to good use filling up the zebra balloons.  :)

Gigi and Grumpy were a huge help, as always.  They helped set up and cleaned up our party while we herded the kiddos to the zoo entrance.  THANK YOU Gigi and Grump!

Getting ready to hit the zoo after cupcakes and ice cream!

The adventure was kinda lost on A.J.  But he wins easiest party guest by far.  We didn't even have to include him in our constant headcount!

We waited for the train for quite a while.  I think the big question Bossypants is asking is, "Who wants to ride on the train with the birthday girl??  Raise your hands!"  Bless Pierce and Lucy for playing along enthusiastically.

Almost our turn...

All Aboard!

After our sweet party guests left, the girls and I hung around a little while with Uncle Ted and Carolyn.  We rode a camel!  And H figured out how to make her sunglasses just glasses...so chic.

While we played with Ted and Carolyn, Jason took home a super-worn-out party guest.  He fell asleep in the car with his glasses on and took a four hour nap.

It was a perfect morning!  Happy early birthday to my sweet five year old!  (This will not be the last birthday-related post of the week or even month, as there are other mini-celebrations planned.)

Sara's Mother's Day Program

This morning was Sara's Mother's Day program at her preschool.  And if you don't watch any other videos, do check this one out.  It's apparently Sara's favorite...as evidenced by how into the choreography she is.

My girl also filled out a sheet about me...

That's right--I'm an awesome colorer.

And we ate some snacks and did the chicken dance in a big circle (sorry--no videos of us doing the chicken dance together!).

Here are the other videos of her program. They're all pretty cute.

Cinco de Mayo

We "celebrated" Cinco de Mayo today by hosting Uncle Gray, Iss, Austin, and A.J. for fun and lunch.

Thankfully, A.J. is a very patient houseguest and let both his big cousins cuddle with him before their naps.

After naps, we celebrated by, what else?, bowling.  (What?  You don't bowl on Cinco de Mayo?)

Bear with the picture quality.  Mommy had only an iphone.

Aren't our shoes LOVELY?

About the only thing better than bowling if you're a Head child is bowling with James and Heather.

 Daddy had to help some.

And we sat in Heather's lap between turns.

Or in the high seats where we could watch all the action.

We cheered (sometimes quite loudly!) for our ball to knock down the pins.

And sometimes we stole Mommy's phone during her turn so we could take pictures of all the balls, which were pretty colors.

And ultimately we decided to keep our day jobs.  This was not the grown-ups' finest bowling night.

For supper, we went to another authentic Mexican destination in honor of the day--Jim N Nicks BBQ.  Toward the end of the meal, Brooks got a little antsy and crawled into Mommy's lap to play.  We like to call him "Risky Business" when he dons Mommy's sunglasses...

And ol' R.B. loves his mama.

All in all, a fun day.  Hope next year's Cinco de Mayo is just as action-packed (and authentic)!
