What do you do when your kids have seen Tangled so many times they know it by heart? You have a Rapunzel birthday party, of course!
We celebrated Sara's birthday with a purple-inspired party, with yellow braids and lanterns everywhere. (DIY tulle pom poms tutorial here.)
The lanterns were all over the house. They were really easy to make. I bought a pack of vellum (the clear paper in the scrapbook section at Hobby Lobby) and wrapped it around a bottle, taped the edges together, attached a sun from the "Kingdom" on the front (which my beloved sister cut out, bless her), and put an LED candle under them. We added little mirrors we already had to reflect the light, but the lights aren't very bright in the pictures with a flash. These may have been my favorite decoration for the party.
We served our food (braided pretzels, twisty braided cheese sticks, fruit, apples for Maximus, and birthday cake) in frying pans.
Rapunzel's braid hung down from the roof... (braided yellow plastic tablecloths for this)
And guests princesses entered through the castle.
Our guests posed on a throne,
And in Flynn Rider's "Wanted" sign.
(Flynn's signs were hung all around the house and in the backyard. Image here.)
They colored the patio (with sidewalk chalk) like Rapunzel and the townspeople color the Town Square in the movie. This was very simple but a hit. I think they would've done this longer, and I should have let them.
We hunted for Flynn Rider's satchel, which contained Rapunzel's crown. Our sleuths were a little too expert. We'll be trickier next time.
We made Pascal party blowers. (Got the idea here--hers look a little better than this one, but I'm partial to this one that was made by my eldest. Template here.)
They busted a princess pinata (which was a little difficult to bust with our heavy frying pan!).
And they painted the inside of Rapunzel's "tower." (Made this by taping presentation boards--the heavy cardboard posters with three sides--together and taping plastic "rock" paper from the party supply store on the outside. They painted with foam paintbrushes and used tempura.)
The birthday girl blew out her candles...
And opened her presents.
And Flynn even came to the party!
(A word to the wise here: When your best friend is considering marrying someone, it behooves you to encourage her toward someone who will love your children, be willing to dress up for their parties, AND happen to have castles and props lying around from prior productions. Take my word on this.)
It was a fun party--many, many thanks to the help of Melissa, Mom, Martha, Mike, Julie, Gray, and James! Lots more pictures to come--just wanted to give a full party overview in one spot so I could post the masses all willy-nilly with no explanation! :)
