It Was Bound To Happen

Jason took Hallie to the doctor this morning after she was sent home from school with 102.4 fever yesterday afternoon. Sure enough, she has another ear infection. The doc said it's an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. So, she's on another antibiotic.

And...we're officially in tube territory. No great shock to anyone in my family--some genes just die hard. We don't yet know when she'll be getting tubes, but I'm planning to call her pediatrician tomorrow to talk it over. We'll keep you posted.

Time to Baby-Proof!

Hallie appears to want to skip crawling and go straight to cruising. She's been pulling herself up on everything lately.

A Picture Worth a Thousand Words

This pretty much sums it up. From the overflowing laundry basket in the background to the toys spread all over our living room to the happy little girl in the middle of it all. Welcome to our house these days...

Incriminating Photos

We left our daughter with her Nana and Papa for less than one full day, and you see where that got us. Straight into an Auburn cheerleader uniform--which they smuggled across state lines so that they could get a picture of her in it while we were gone! Who knew my in-laws were so subversive?

Saturday with Grumpy & Gigi

More from Saturday...

Carousel

Jason and I went to Auburn for a (dismal) basketball game this weekend, and Hallie spent time with Gigi and Grumpy. She and Gigi rode the carousel at the mall!

Chameleon

Snow Day!

It's Archie and Hallie's first Snow Day. This is our backyard, and the snow is still falling at a good clip!
Whenever the Bug wakes up from her nap maybe we'll bundle up for a few pictures (after all, it may be another several years before we see accumulating snow again).

Round of Applause

Hallie has learned to clap her hands! See her in action HERE.

Big Girl

When Jason went to pick Hallie up from school earlier this week, Miss Evelyn announced that she was pulling up all by herself. She said she put Hallie in a crib, turned her back for a minute, and when she turned back around Hallie was standing in her bed looking at her!

(Note to the grandmothers: We promptly lowered her bed at home.)

Child Psychology

As I took Hallie to her room at school today, I walked past a little girl in another room who was standing by the door screaming. She was about 3. I arrived in Hallie's room, put her bottles in the fridge, handed her to Miss Alexis, and stealthily escaped without any separation anxiety of our own.

As I exited her room and again passed the screaming preschooler, I noticed her mother come out of the room. I guess she had gone back to check on her (hello--any former nursery worker knows that is a serious mistake). A teacher at the school, in an attempt to encourage her, told the mother that the little girl would be ok and that she would eventually start playing with the other children.

The mother, in a frenzied huff, remarked, "Well, we're taking her to two therapists, so hopefully it will get better soon." And then she left.

I stood there for a minute digesting what I had just heard. This woman was taking her 3 year old to a THERAPIST. Scratch that--TWO therapists! Because she has separation anxiety!

My question is this: when this phase passes in her daughter's life, which it undoubtedly will, will she really believe that it's the therapy finally kicking in? And another thing: what happens if this child actually has some serious problems one day? She will have already exhausted all of Birmingham's qualified therapists at the ripe old age of 6.

Happy Girl

We took a chilly walk this morning, and Hallie was glad to be outside.

Happy New Year!
